Mystic Harmony
Mary Anne Brundage
Mary Anne Brundage
lead vocals, harp, guitar

Mary Anne started singing in England, her first solo being “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” for the Kindergarten class play. Her Dad was reassigned to the U.S. and Mary Anne spent the rest of her growing up in the DC area. At age 10, she picked up the guitar and began to accompany herself singing. In high school she regularly sang and played with her brother, Denis, at coffeehouses and family gatherings. She spent a lot of time singing harmony to the radio and later with her kids! She sang her first opera in high school and participated in some musical revues in college. Although folk music has always been her first love, she went on to pursue classical training, receiving both undergraduate and masters degrees in music performance. Most of her active performing life has been in the church music scene, either as a soloist or music director. She discovered the harp in 1999 and has been smitten ever since. She lives to play harp in collaboration with others and has a passion for writing arrangements that evoke a deeper spiritual connection.

Janet has worked in hospice and palliative care nursing for over 19 years in the metropolitan Washington area. After a 20-year hiatus from playing the flute, she picked it up again 7 years ago to play occasionally for church services. She now considers herself a “poster child” for adults who decide to go after new and unexpected dreams in their late 40’s.

keyboards, harmony vocals

Janice grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan as part of a family that loved music and encouraged the development of these gifts at an early age. She began taking piano lessons at age six and quickly became a sight-reader extraordinaire much to the dismay of her teachers (did she ever really practice?). Throughout her school years, Janice played for church services and wedding ceremonies, and participated in a variety of music groups and national competitions. She paid for her college education by giving piano lessons, directing a children’s choir, and singing in many local restaurants.

Janice moved to the Washington Metro area in 1982 and set aside any musical aspirations to become well-versed in the areas of association and risk management. Her passion for performing was reignited when she was recruited to sing at the Lincoln Memorial with “One Thousand Voices” as part of The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts celebration in 2000. Shortly thereafter, she was asked to join Mystic Harmony and enjoys playing music with influences from her Celtic heritage as well as collaborating on writing arrangements.

"We absolutely love Kindle a Flame! We are playing the demo you sent us non-stop and trying to expose as many of our customers as we can to this great music!  Thank you sooo much for turning us on to this CD! Mystic Harmony is really enriching the lives of so many people around here!"
Lucia's Garden bookstore, Houston, TX

"It has been some time since a vocal group has happened upon the scene to test the long standing position held by three or four of the world’s more prominent Celtic artists and performers. Mystic Harmony, a trio made up of Mary Anne Brundage, Janet Booth and Janice Mawson are very likely contenders. Their silky blending of Celtic, World and even, yes, opera on their new album Kindle a Flame will lull you into a megacosm of sweet emotion and crystalline beauty. Traditional Celtic songs, hymns, instrumentals, and folk music are their mainstay. Their cathedral-filling sound and elaborate echoing arrangements are contemplative and uplifting.
I think that Mystic Harmony has hit upon a winning combination of songs and instrumentals that testify daily that there is still a strong dependence of faith in the world. There is always hope. Kindle a Flame is one of the best debut CDs I’ve heard in a while."

RJ Lannan, The New Age Reporter

"When I first received Kindle a Flame by Mystic Harmony, I was already dreading listening to it.  With a name like Mystic Harmony, I thought I was in for some new-age torture.  Am I ever so glad that I was wrong!  I was caught off guard by Mystic Harmony's three beautiful voices and, as a lover of Celtic music, I instantly knew I had a CD treasure in my possession...If you enjoy Celtic music and can appreciate strong, passionate, yet spiritual harmonizing vocals, you now know about some mystics that can kindle your flame."

"The band Mystic Harmony played to a SRO crowd at Jammin' Java...CDs were flying off the shelves after the concert."
Daniel Brindley, Jammin' Java music club, Vienna VA

"Celtic inspirational music is the theme that Mystic Harmony explores throughout “Kindle a Flame”. They beckon you to take a journey, and a spiritual one at that, towards the center of your soul via their enigmatic melodies and lush instrumentation. Peaceful and cathartic, Mystic Harmony reside in Northern Virginia and have played Celtic-inspired folk music and ambient New Age for years. Truly an album that will make your body tingle."
